Extension terms and privacy

The extension is provided by RemoteStar Ltd, 42-44 Bishopsgate, London, England, EC2N 4AH. In these terms “we” and “RemoteStar” mean RemoteStar Ltd, and “you” means the person using the extension.

By installing or using the extension you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, uninstall the extension.

When you open a job posting and click the extension button, it reads the visible text of that page and sends it to RemoteStar so we can either:

• score that job description against the profile and resume already held in your RemoteStar account, and show you a match score with your strengths and gaps, or
• generate a resume tailored to that specific job description and download it to your device as a PDF.

The extension only works when you are signed in to your RemoteStar candidate account at jobs.remotestar.io. It does not create accounts, and it will tell you to sign in rather than doing anything on its own if you are signed out.

You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for activity carried out under your account.

Checking a match is free. Tailoring and downloading a resume costs 50 RemoteStar credits per job description, taken from your account balance at the time you request it.

If a tailoring job fails because of a fault on our side, tell us and we will restore the credits. Credits are not exchangeable for cash.

Tailored resumes and match scores are produced by automated language models working from your profile and the job description. They can be wrong. They can overstate, understate or misdescribe your experience.

Read every tailored resume in full before you send it to an employer. You remain responsible for the accuracy of anything you submit as part of a job application. A match score is our opinion of fit, not a prediction that you will be hired, and not advice about whether to apply.

You agree not to:

• use the extension to scrape job boards in bulk, or in any way that breaches the terms of the sites you visit,
• attempt to access another person's RemoteStar account or data through the extension,
• decompile, modify or redistribute the extension, or publish a derivative of it, or
• use it to generate resumes that you know to be false.

We may suspend your access to the extension if you do any of these.

The extension runs on job postings hosted by employers and job boards that have nothing to do with us. We are not affiliated with them, we do not endorse them, and we are not responsible for their content, their hiring decisions or their terms. Your use of those sites is between you and them.

We may update the extension, change what it does or stop offering it. Browsers also update independently of us and can change or withdraw the features the extension relies on. We do not promise it will always be available or free of faults.

If we make a material change to these terms we will update this page and change the date at the top. Continuing to use the extension after that counts as accepting the new terms.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited under the law of England and Wales.

Beyond that, we are not liable for lost job opportunities, lost income, or any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the extension. The extension is a tool that helps you prepare applications. It does not guarantee any outcome.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.

When you click the extension button on a job posting, it reads the visible text of that page and the page title. It does this only for the tab you are viewing, and only when you click.

It does not read pages in the background, does not run on any page you have not pointed it at, and has no access to your other tabs.

The job description text and the page title go to the RemoteStar candidate API so we can score the match or generate a tailored resume. This is the same processing that happens when you paste a job description into the web app by hand.

Requests are authenticated with a token from your signed-in RemoteStar session. That token is held in memory for the length of a request and is never written to disk.

The extension stores, in your browser only, the address and title of each job posting you have checked, its match score, and the progress of any resume currently being generated. This is what lets you reopen the popup on a posting you have already checked without paying for the analysis twice.

The addresses of the pages you visit are never sent to us. They are used inside your browser to tell one job posting from another, and nothing else.

This data is deleted automatically after seven days, and immediately if you uninstall the extension.

• It does not sell or share your data with third parties.
• It does not track which websites you visit.
• It does not inject anything into the pages you browse or change how they look.
• It does not show advertising.
• It does not load or run any code from outside the extension package.

Job descriptions you submit and the resumes generated from them are kept with your RemoteStar account so you can find them again, and are covered by the main RemoteStar privacy policy. Data held inside the extension is deleted after seven days as described above.

You can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to hello@remotestar.io. If you are in the UK you can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Uninstalling the extension from your browser deletes everything it stored on your device. Your RemoteStar account and the data in it are not affected. To delete your account as well, contact us at the address below.
